"Like everybody else, I was absolutely devastated. I'd like to pass on my condolences to his family.
"Unfortunately, he had a lot of injuries while he was there ( Sheffield). But he was a nice fellow. He always tried his best - it just didn't work out for him at Sheffield Wednesday. It puts football into perspective."
Paul Jewell - Derby County
"Phil loved Motherwell, but he also wanted to see all the young players progress and go as far as possible.
"Just after I signed for Celtic, I bumped into Phil and his wife Eileen at a concert and I'll never forget the look on his face. He was just smiling constantly and was so excited that I had joined Celtic.
"There was a sense of pride in him and I will always remember his kind words in that moment. But that was just Phil, seeing other people happy made him happy.
"It's just a tragic loss. Motherwell is a tight-knit, close club and everyone connected with Fir Park is devastated. But his memory will live on - I'll certainly never forget Phil O'Donnell."
Scott McDonald - Celtic FC
